Question:
I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to too

asked by dick on 05/12/2012

Answer:
I feel the same way about running over mountain bikers who think they are part of traffic. They wave their arms to signal that they are turning, that's usually when they are rolling around underneath a massive Nissan armada. I just tell the cop I didn't see his arm turning signal, I was too busy laughing at his fluorescent pink helmet. Then the cop gives me a 40 dollar ticket and I go on my merry way! 40 bucks is such a fair price for that much visual entertainment.

Question:
Sorry Jess, but zepplin were a bunch of unorigional rip off artists...this isnt the only example of them completley stealing songs...that being said, john was the only true person with undeniable talent...watch the video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCgC1LOxiBM

asked by Drainbamage826 on 05/15/2012

Answer:
I think taking an old blues public domain recording from the 40s and making it into what they made it into is just as much as, if not more impressive. It wasn't just zeppelin either, all the bands from that era plagiarized the blues. I like it.

Question:
Jess, how do you feel about Queen playing upcoming shows with a Freddie Mercury hologram? Shouldn't they just let his legacy rest?

asked by Austin on 05/15/2012

Answer:
so they do a bunch of interviews saying holograms are lame and they will never do it. now less than a month later they decide that they are doing it. great guys. fucking flip flopping maniacs.

answered by Jess on 05/16/2012

Question:
As much as it seems like the music industry sucks right now, we are also so lucky. this is a time when people from all over can listen to whatever they want, and a time of flourishing creativity. it's just another paradigm shift. everywhere i look, i see beauty and perfection in music. it's so great at the moment, you just have to go along with it. no, consumers aren't buying into the old ways. but there are new ways jess, that's all you have to see.

asked by PurpleAmigo on 05/15/2012

Answer:
hmm, i think soon most musicians (70-80 percent range) will have to go work jobs and "music" will become just a hobby for most people. which will not be good. can you imagine if pink floyd had to go work at the london grocery store while recording dark side of the moon? i would imagine the results would be nowhere near as good. thats what is happening right now, these new bands are getting hit the hardest, i feel sorry for them. they are trading getting paid for their hard work to just be "famous". any new band that signs a record deal has to give away their merch and publishing rights to these labels. which means they are working for basically free, in exchange for what i can only guess is the idea of being famous. which is really, really fucking stupid.

answered by Jess on 05/16/2012

Question:
Jess, Led Zepplin is a T-shirt company; what are you talking about?! There are plenty of classic hits on the radio, I hear Seether's old stuff all the time.

asked by elklandercc on 05/15/2012

Answer:
haha, yeah fair enough. i can't help but get choked up when i hear some classic "everclear" tunes. collective soul? thats some legendary shit right there.

Question:
I think children should be forced to listen to Chuck Berry at a young age. Maybe rock would go in a better direction.

asked by swels on 05/14/2012

Answer:
1st and 2nd grade classes should absolutely pass out howlin wolf, chuck berry, led zeppelin, etc. records, get them started at an early age just like religion does. i would bet that if the led zeppelin catalog replaced the king james bible/quran, etc. our species would be exploring space together and actually progressing instead of spending all of our money and time figuring out ways to kill each other all day long. thats some fucking un-evolved caveman bullshit.

answered by Jess on 05/14/2012

Question:

hey jess, by chance are you into the melvins? just got to see them in santa ana last friday for the first time and i have to say...wow, would be a sweet bill to have cky and the melvins play! also do you happen to know of any bands that might be similar to them or just as awesome?

asked by nickfischer25 on 05/14/2012

Answer:
i was on a melvins tribute album a few years ago that came out on ryan dunns label. it was me and the brandywine eel, mastodon, dillinger escape plan, hanna's old band did a song. it was a good one. that band "red fang" is the most similar sound i have heard to melvins.

answered by Jess on 05/14/2012

Hey Jess, every now and again i see some Him shit on ebay that you guys have signed, and im wondering does it piss you off when people ask you to sign something of a band you have nothing to do with?

asked by Donald Hall on 05/12/2012

Answer:
most of our signatures that i see on ebay are fakes. i saw a vol.2 on there that i supposedly "signed" hahaha. and either i sneezed while tripping on angel dust while signing it, or its a fake.

Question:
Jess, I got to say, your view on the whole refused/capitalism thing is dumb. It's like calling someone who dislikes cancer hypocritical for having cancer. I'm pretty sure the band refused does not control our socioeconomic system; they can only work within it and do their best to survive while also speaking out against it. It's just an unfortunate type of paradox that we are stuck in. Just like when you bitch about people freely sharing music because you lose potential profits, I don't go and call you a greedy sellout whore just making music for the money, because I understand that obtaining money is what this inherently flawed corrupt system demands of us if we want to survive. Also, why should we laugh at you for doing what makes you happy? If at one point you disliked something, but later found that you have grown to like it, then why do we have to make fun of you for evolving your ideas or beliefs? That's like saying we should make fun of the people who changed their understanding from a geocentric universe to a heliocentric universe after it was discovered, because those people aren't being "consistent".

asked by Deadnight warrior on 05/09/2012

Answer:
geocentric vs. heliocentric universes? what the fuck are you talking about dude? listen, refused doesn't need to charge that much money for a ticket. end of argument. its not like they have jumbotrons up there they have to pay for. its a money-grab, plain and simple. which is fine! but i just think its hilarious and just a little bit ironic that the band doing the money grab also has written entire records preaching against that! how is that so hard for you to understand? fucks sake!

Question:
Chad was lucky; an actor just died after accidentally hanging himself during a performance: http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/1166246--actor-playing-judas-on-stage-dies-after-accidental-hanging-in-the-passion-of-christ?bn=1

asked by Hours_Awake on 05/07/2012

Answer:
that day still freaks me out when i think about it, the escape from hellview video def. has an eerie vibe to it, still to this day. chad must be a somewhat forgiving dude however because that guy who almost killed him directed the afterworld video. ha!

answered by Jess on 05/09/2012

Question:
I know you commented on Refused asking 50 dollars a ticket. How much of a say does the band actually has over ticket prices?

asked by subtlesuicide on 05/08/2012

Answer:
if its your own headlining show, most times you can set the price. its rare that you can't. i know that we try to keep CKY tickets between 15-20 bucks. and im not hating on refused, i like that band. im just pointing out that when your band preaches about how evil capitalism is, then you come to a capitalist country and charge 50 dollars a ticket instead of say...20 bucks like most bands, well... thats called being a bunch of hypocritical bastards. i can't help but call bullshit on people that say one thing and do the opposite. its just wired into my brain and its a huge pet peeve of mine. as im sure you are all aware on here, one of my favorite things to do on ask cky is make fun of flash in the pan trends and people who participate in these cultural atrocities. now if i were to one day join a screamcore band wear tight jeans, get an eyebrow ring, a fringe cut and a sleeve of tattoos on my arm, wouldn't you point at me and laugh your ass off after all the shit i have talked on that? well, if you dont do that then you are an asshole because i would deserve every bit of criticism for being a fucking hypocritical dumbass. i don't know, i just have this thing about me that i try to be consistent with what i say and do at the same time. silly, i know.

asked by Morfiend on 05/06/2012

Answer:
nope nothing bothers me anymore, i dont care who likes cky or how they found out about us, im just happy they found out about us. i think my dog and my 2 cats started a band and have a facebook page with 5,000 followers. the landscapers outside have a sweet band and they have more twitter followers than doug stanhope. anyhoo, its fucking overwhelming how many bands there are out there and i think its great anytime anyone checks out our music. im amazed that anyone finds out about anything anymore. too much shit out there. tons of awesome bands that i find all the time and they have like 200 likes on their facebook page. its fucking crazy out there people.

Answer:
you know, i really like the band "refused" ... shape of punk to come is a great record. but i looked at their touring schedule this month. i gotta say, a band that is constantly singing about the evils of capitalism charging 50 dollars a ticket? thats fucking funny right there. nah, its god damn hilarious. keep fighting that fight guys. hahaha!

Question:
jess i really need some advice, not to come off as a charity case but ive neer had a dad or anything like that and to be honest i look up to you a lot. i have been really down on life and myself lately and i cant muster up the determination and enthusiasm toget a better job so i can move out of my granparents house..how do you find new inspiration how do you get your spark back? i havent drummed in over a year i quit skating..help jess i could use some advice!

asked by nickfischer25 on 05/03/2012

Answer:
if you are bored and bumming lately you should probably just switch it up a bit. for instance jam with some new people, try different shit. you might find yourself out of your comfort zone sometimes but that's part of the fun i think. if you keep turning right everyday and you are tired of the scenery try turning left tomorrow. fuck it man what have you got to lose. like i have said before, we are all spinning on a rock for no good reason. it helps to remember that.

Question:
What are your thoughts on "Sludge Metal?" Are you looking forward for Eyehategod's new album and the new material Down is releasing? Also not to be a genre nazi but what would you classify Cky to be?

asked by The Power of the Riff on 05/02/2012

Answer:
never got too into eyehategod stuff, but all 3 of down's albums are great. CKY doesn't fit into a genre, which is a blessing and a curse. i know a lot of bands like to say they don't fit into a genre, i guess its the trendy thing to say or something, but CKY truly has no peers.

answered by Jess on 05/02/2012

Question:
Hey Jess, Do you feel people are panicking now that they realise the industry is dying and it's partially their fault (ie. record stores closing down, labels closing offices, etc.). I think people are now starting to realise the damage that has been done because of illegal downloading.

asked by Syko Kyd on 04/29/2012

Answer:
the quality of music and bands doing tours will no doubt suffer if and when music becomes something that people simply can't make a career out of anymore. the old argument of "well... i can download the album if i buy a shirt at their show" wont really fly if the band can't even make it to your town. hologram tours will have to suffice because the real musicians wont be able to afford travel to get to the show, haha

answered by Jess on 04/30/2012

Jess you don't happen to have any copies of cKy's Live at Mr. Smalls Funhouse CD/DVD combo that I could buy off of you or the store by chance? I realize this a complete shot in the dark but that is one piece of music I cannot find ANYWHERE and it blows.

asked by fuCKYou87 on 04/27/2012

Answer:
i think the only way to get those live tracks now are on itunes/amazon mp3. the cd/dvd combo has been sold out since the last tour. i was thinking of putting the live at smalls tracks on bandcamp so you can get them at a higher quality wav file or 320kbps mp3. would you guys be down for that?

Question:
Jess, how do you feel about the news that Roadrunner offices have had to be shut down in the UK and Europe? Big loss to music, or did they have it coming to them?

asked by andre72 on 04/27/2012

Answer:
i dont understand how people are shocked by this news? if the world decided all of a sudden that "pizza is free! you just go to freepizza.com click send, all pizza all over the world is officially free...starting now." then when pizza hut and dominos start closing all their stores people are like "wow, would you look at that! who would have thought? ...geez what a bummer! i love pizza hut! this isn't fair!"

answered by Jess on 04/27/2012

Question:
Wow Jess, you sure can predict the future.. Roadrunner going to shits, offices shut down and bands dropped.. This world of "art and music" is fucking dying every waking second, it's so damn sad to see.. Hope you guys reach out to Scandinavia soon, we miss you up here, peace.

asked by iaiao on 04/27/2012

Answer:
i wouldn't call it predicting the future, i just have eyes! haha. no more buying music, no more record labels. also, according to the us bureau of labor, the amount of people working as a "professional musician" dropped about 25 percent in recent years. its pretty upsetting to watch actually. when i was a kid, rockstars were larger than life idols that were untouchable. david lee roth probably was getting blow jobs from 5 different girls in his private jet on the way to every show. now you got dudes like "gotye" who looks like his favorite thing to do is eat a vegan burrito at a coffee shop. and a bunch of weekend warrior type rock bands that look like they just came from the company picnic to play the gig. all the good rock bands are old and there is nothing but chris brown and simon cowell pop bullshit everywhere. music has become as exciting as watching tennis or "the ice capades" on tv. the sad part is there are really fucking good new bands that exist out there but no one will ever know about them. graveyard sells 1,000 copies of their newest album and plays to 200 people a night. when "daughtry" sells more tickets and albums then a band like graveyard... thats it folks, game over.

answered by Jess on 04/27/2012

Question:
i read you said you would stop april first, but can we still get Gnarkill III somehow

asked by Taylorb917 on 04/13/2012

Answer:
ok, ill keep burning gnarkill III discs til may 1st. but after that i have to stop because it really is time consuming, and time is just not on my side these days. so here it is, place an order on shitbird.bigcartel.com before may 1st and get a free GKIII, and if you dont order by then fuck it, thats plenty of time to figure shit out. geet it now or forever hold your penis

answered by Jess on 04/24/2012

Question:
I think you nailed it on the head Jess! Everyone is faking now & its why I'm not interested in dishing out $100+ for some concerts. Recently Gene Simmons called out Rihanna for lip syncing, I'm surprised there wasn't some media backlash on Gene. Only thing I can say is that IF concert promoters start "Hologram Tours" at least there will finally be GOOD bands touring again....

asked by swels on 04/20/2012

Answer:
well i dont know what the fuck everybody else is doing but you'll never catch me in a band doing fake shit ever. rest assured that if you see me behind the drums you can be sure its real people playing real instruments because playing an ipod through a sound system will never, ever be a real "show" in my opinion. i don't care how many fucking dancers you have or that there is confetti bombs and pyro explosions, whatever. if there is not active microphones on stage going through the PA speakers, then you bought a ticket to an overrated party with a overrated DJ with lip synchers dancing around like a richard simmons work-out tape

answered by Jess on 04/23/2012
